Island Experiences
Swim, snorkel, learn to dive, explore Havelock's beaches or set out for a full day on the water — one island, a great many ways to spend it.
Havelock is one of those rare places where the headline activity — the water — is genuinely as good as people say. The reefs are close, the sea is warm, and the operators who work here do so year after year, which is exactly what you want from the people taking you underwater.
We arrange activities with trusted local operators rather than running them ourselves, which means you get people who know the sites, the currents and the conditions on the day. Everything is booked around your pace: a single try-dive, a week of logged dives, or nothing more strenuous than a snorkel before lunch.
Availability depends on the season, the weather and the sea. We will always tell you honestly what is likely to run on your dates rather than promising a full programme and cancelling it later.
- Beginner try-dives and certified dives with local operators
- Snorkelling trips over shallow coral gardens
- Sea walking and glass-bottom boat trips for non-swimmers
- Kayaking through calm bays and mangrove channels
- Island sightseeing to Radhanagar, Kalapathar and beyond
- Sunset evenings on the western shore
Scuba Diving
Havelock is where a great many Indian divers take their first breath underwater. Calm, clear, warm water and shallow training sites make it forgiving for beginners, while deeper offshore sites keep experienced divers coming back.
A try-dive takes half a morning and needs no prior experience — a briefing, shallow practice and then a guided dive over the reef. Certified divers can arrange multi-dive days or work towards a further qualification with the island's dive schools.
- Beginner try-dives with full briefing and guide
- Guided dives for certified divers
- Certification courses through local dive schools
- All equipment provided by the operator

Snorkelling & Water Activities
If diving feels like a step too far, snorkelling gets you most of the way there for a fraction of the effort. Boats run out to the shallow reefs where the coral sits close enough to the surface to see everything clearly, and the crew stays with you the whole time.
Elephant Beach is the island's hub for water activities, reached by a short boat ride. Depending on the day and the operator, it is where you will find sea walking, kayaking, jet skiing and similar on-water activities alongside the snorkelling.
- Boat snorkelling over shallow reefs
- Sea walking for non-swimmers
- Kayaking in calm water
- Equipment and guidance included by the operator

Island Sightseeing
Spend a day tracing the island end to end: Radhanagar on the west coast in the late afternoon, Kalapathar's rock formations in the morning light, and the village at Govind Nagar in between for the market, the jetty and lunch.
For those with more time, boat trips to neighbouring islands in the archipelago make a rewarding full-day outing. We can help you plan the route and timing so you are in the right place at the right hour.
- Radhanagar Beach at golden hour
- Kalapathar Beach in the morning
- Govind Nagar village, market and jetty
- Day trips to nearby islands

Sunset & Beach Evenings
The simplest island experience is also the one guests remember. On a clear evening the western sky goes through the full range — gold, coral, deep orange, then a short violet before dark — and the whole island turns out to watch it.
Walk down early, find a spot on the sand and stay put. Afterwards, dinner tastes better for having done nothing to earn it.

Planning your activities
- Book diving and boat trips for the morning — the sea is usually calmest then
- Allow a rest day between your last dive and a flight home
- Bring reef-safe sunscreen, a hat and more water than you think you need
- Children can usually snorkel or sea walk with an adult, subject to operator rules
- Activities are weather-dependent and may be rescheduled on the day
- Tell us your interests with your enquiry and we will plan the week around them
Good to know
- Do I need to be able to swim to dive or snorkel?
- Not necessarily. Try-dives and sea walks are run with a guide and are possible for non-swimmers, subject to the operator's own rules. Tell us in advance so we match you to the right activity.
- Can children take part?
- Many activities have minimum ages set by the operator. Snorkelling and boat trips are usually fine for older children with an adult. Share their ages with your enquiry.
- What if the weather turns?
- Boat activities are cancelled or rescheduled when the sea is rough. It is normal here and rarely wastes more than a morning — the beaches, the village and the interior are all still there.
- How far in advance should I book?
- Popular dive slots and boat trips fill up in peak season. Mention your plans with your booking enquiry and we will start arranging early.
